DO NOT use more than 3 finishes in a single space unless it is very large. Although you may be able to use four finishes in a large room, it is not recommended. Visual clutter can result from too many finishes.

DO Choose two or three finishes for your entire house. One or two finishes should be the dominant ones, and another accent color can be added.
DO NOT use new finishes in every room. Do not mix two or more finishes in one area. You want your rooms to flow together, and hardware can act as a connector force. You can make it too complicated by adding more.
DO add contrast by mixing complementary forms.
DON’T overdo it. The combination of square and round rose kits is a great idea to increase the contrast. But, it will be too overwhelming. Use focused combinations when mixing finishes and shapes.
DO go outside! The combination of finishes can make a home look amazing and increase its curb appeal. You have many options to make your house stand apart from the rest, such as the knocker, door handle, post slot, and light fixture.
